You can see Dots and Xs in front of you. Do you know how to count them? We may find out the number of dots or Xs by pointing to each dot or X and naming the numbers in turn from 1 to 10. It is important to consider every single dot and X. Be careful not to count one dot or X several times. There should be one digit for each dot or X. Follow the order of the numbers: 1_2_3_4_5_6_7_8_9_10. What shall you do if you need to count two groups of dots or Xs? You may start to count numbers in one group and then continue counting in another group. This way, you will find out the total number of dots or Xs in two groups.

Look at the picture. For instance, you may find six dots in one group. Starting the account of the second group, you will designate the first dot with the number 7, not 1. You have already counted 6 dots in the first group, so you need to continue counting without starting it again.
