Determine the number of shapes. Name each shape a certain number in order from 1 to 5. The number of the last shape that you named indicates the total number of all shapes that you counted. If you call the last shape the number 3, it means that there are only three shapes in total.
If you want to figure out how many toys you were given for your birthday, count them. You can move toys from one place to another and at the same time call the numbers in order from 1 to 5: one toy, two toys, three toys - until the toys run out. Did you run out of toys when you said "five toys"? This means that you have five toys. Another way to count toys is to put them in one row, then count them, pointing to each toy in order: one, two, three, four, five.
Determine the number of shapes. Double-check and remember the most important rules of counting:
1. Don't miss any shape when counting. You have to consider each one.
2. You can't count the same shape twice. Otherwise, you will find the wrong amount. It is possible to give only one digit for each shape.
It is worth saying that you can use the same rules counting shapes in a row and shapes placed any which way. Remember counting the shape only once.
