How to determine a flat or solid shape?
Flat shapes lay entirely on the same plane, for example, on a sheet of paper.
Solid figures have their body and can stand on a plane. They have a width, length, height, and volume. It means that we may fill them with something.
May you determine which figure is in front of you - flat or solid?
You may know that a square is a flat shape. It can lie on the surface, like a piece of paper. And what do we call the shapes that have not only width and length, but also height? They are solid figures.
Solid figures have a body (or volume) filled in with something. We can measure such solid figures using four values: length, width, height, and volume.
The part of the solid figure that is on the plane is called the base of the figure. The base of a solid figure is always a flat figure.
Compare a sheet of paper and a box. You can't put anything in a piece of paper, but you put a stack of sheets in a box. Do you have a clue? Yes, a piece of paper is a square. A box is a solid figure called a cube. The base of the cube is a square.
