Determine the length of the objects. Choose which item is longer and which one is shorter.
You need to compare the length of two objects. Find out which item is longer. You can do it by sight. You may say that a snake is longer than a worm.
Sometimes we cannot immediately say which object is longer. To avoid a mistake, attach one item to another so that their ends match. Check where the second ends of the items are. If these ends coincide as well, then the objects are equal in length. If the end of one item is farther, it means that one of the objects is shorter. That object which ends further we will call longer.
You don't always have the opportunity to attach one object to another. In this case, intermediary measures come to the rescue. Imagine that you need to find out which room is longer - yours or your sister's. Measure the rooms in steps. Your step is the yardstick by which you measure the rooms. The longer room will be the one where you took more steps when measuring it. Keep in mind that the steps must be the same.
You can't go wrong if you use a ruler to measure. Take a ruler. Attach it to the object so that the left end coincides with the mark "0". From the right edge, we should place the ruler at the most extreme point of the object. This point will be opposite the ruler mark, which indicates the length of the item.
