These printable worksheets are a fun and easy way to teach a child counting by five.
This task is specifically designed for kindergarten children to develop their mathematical skills using very understandable visual support.
Children count the number on fingers and know that each hand has five fingers. After a while, they learn that it’s not necessary to count every time and it is more efficient to immediately take a palm with five fingers for the number five. Then it’s easy to sum up further 5+5+5.
The worksheets provide multiple tasks from the simplest, using which you can introduce the topic, to more complicated, that can be assigned as a homework for further practice. Each worksheet has three tasks with pictures of palms and a specially designated space for an answer.
If you want to add some extra challenge, set the time limit to solve the tasks. To set pair work, ask one child to use a worksheet as a guide and say a number from a box aloud. Ask the second child to show the number with his hands by raising palms with five open fingers as many times as necessary. The one who said a number checks with the worksheet on the number of open palms.
This activity is suitable for 5 to 7 years old students, U.S. school kindergarten, and 1st grade.
We recommend using a color printer for printing to improve the clarity of the image.
