Use this handy set of math printables to help third-graders compare and order fractions. Our worksheets provide several tasks on each page. Using shaded parts, kids need to compare fractions and then order them from smallest to largest.
Fractions are so important. When we split something into parts, they show how many of those parts we have. Fractions consist of two numbers separated by a line. The number of equal parts is called the numerator, and the number of parts in the whole is the denominator. For example, 1/8 shows that out of 8 equal parts, we choose 1. We can read it as one-eighth or 1 by 8.
When comparing fractions with the same denominators, we need to find one with a smaller numerator. Thus, ⅕ is less than ⅗, and ⅘ is greater than ⅖.
To order fractions with different denominators, we need to find the least common multiple of the denominators, make the denominators the same using the least common multiple, and then compare the numerators of fractions and order them.
Use these materials to support your kids' learning at school or self-practicing at home. The worksheets are printable-friendly versions and are easy to download, print, and use.
