These printable worksheets are the perfect learning activity that helps a child learn how to estimate the product of multiplying numbers. Practicing with these resources, students need to round each number in the estimation to the closest 10, then perform some mental arithmetic and write the estimated product.
Estimation is one of the skills which is to be mastered when multiplying larger numbers. Finding approximation is vital and extremely usable when input data may be uncertain or changeable. Estimation is also done when calculating the exact number is difficult or inconvenient at the moment.
For estimating to the nearest 10, take a number, for instance, 23, and look at the ones. If it is from 0 to 4, we replace it with zero. In our case, 23 is estimated to be 20. If we take a number 78, look again at the ones. If it is from 5 to 9, will replace it with an extra 10, which is 80.
Each worksheet contains 36 equations, which are not repeated and would work perfectly as extra practice material or as a test.
This activity is suitable for 9–10 years old students, U.S. school: 4th grade.
These learning pages are suitable for black and white and color printers.
