These printables are for third and fourth-graders to practice adding, subtracting, and comparing numbers.
Adding, subtracting, and comparing numbers form the basis of various math problems. By mastering these skills, students improve their number sense and recognize relationships between numbers easier.
There are several tasks on each page. Children need to add or subtract numbers in columns and compare the answers by putting the correct sign: “<,” “>,” or “=.”
How do we compare numbers? First, we need to compare the digits with the greatest place value, for example, hundreds or tens. If these digits are equal, we continue comparing the digits of the least value, for example, ones.
Let's compare 38 and 54. First, we find the digits of the greatest value. These are 3 and 5, which represent tens. We know that 5 is greater than 3, so 54 is greater than 38. We put the sign: 38< 54.
If there are numbers 48 and 42, we find that the digits representing tens are equal. In this case, we continue comparing the other digits, which are 8 and 2. We know that 2 is less than 8, so 42 is less than 48. To show the difference, we write the sign: 26>29. Use this instruction to find the answers.
The worksheets are printable-friendly versions and are easy to download, print and use.
