This counting activity will help students practice recognizing and counting coins. Children will develop their understanding of U.S. currency and use them to find the values of groups of coins.
The skill to count coins is highly significant for both math lessons and everyday life. The most common U.S. currencies are coins and paper dollars. Each coin has a different value. A penny equals 1 cent, a nickel 5 cents, a dime 10 cents, and a quarter 25 cents. Paper bills are 1 dollar, 5 dollars, 20 dollars, 50 dollars, and 100 dollars notes.
To count coins, we apply the rules of addition. How much will we get if we add a quarter to nickel? We know that a quarter equals ¢25 and a nickel - ¢5. To add 25 to 5, we add up their ones. Thus, we get three tens and no ones, that is ¢30.
There are several tasks on each worksheet. Students need to count pennies, nickels, quarters, dimes and write the answers. These printables will be a great educational source for math lessons and self-practice at home.
The worksheets are printable-friendly versions and are suitable for color printers.
